Welcome Jennifer Fergesen

We are pleased to welcome American food and culture writer Jennifer Fergesen to a two month residency. Jennifer is a nonfiction writer with a focus on the syncretization of indigenous and immigrant culture and cuisine in the circumpolar north. For the past four years, she has focused her work on northern regions including Iceland, Greenland, the Faroe Islands and Alaska, where she uses her training as a food writer to open a window into communities and ways of life that few people know about. She has experience working with the migrant Filipine cultures of the Faroe Islands and Alaska. During her residency, she will immerse herself in the community in order to understand the flavor of immigrant life in Svalbard. Jennifer has won the Gamboa Fernandez award from the Philippines and her reporting on modern Iñupiat food culture in Alaska was nominated for the 2023 James Beard award and is included in Best American Food Writing 2023. She is pursuing a PhD from the University of California, Davis.
