Welcome Sandra Setzkorn

We welcome Berlin-based artist Sandra Setzkorn to the Spitsbergen Artists Residency! She will join us in June staying through July, and possibly longer. Sandra plans to continue working on a project conceived during her April Arctic Circle residency sailing in Svalbard. She is working on photographs that on the one hand open fictional narratives about life on a ship, inspired by ancient work as whale catchers, explorers, female seamen and conquerors, and on the other give documentary hints about travel on a tall ship and the expedition. Photographs are combined with texts from historical sources, her own journaling and other writing during the trip, logbook data, and other collected information.
